Allow the surface to be ready
The correct waiting time depends on the material, thickness, conditions and ventilation. The surface should be appropriately dry before the paint system is applied.
Inspect before decorating
Small imperfections are easier to correct before the final coats. Lighting the wall from different angles can reveal areas that need attention.
Protect completed work
When painting forms part of a renovation, it should usually happen after disruptive work has finished. That reduces the risk of newly decorated walls being damaged by later trades.
Coordinate colours and features
Painting is also the stage where gypsum details, feature walls, timber finishes and lighting begin to work together visually.
