Electrical and plumbing upgrades often involve opening walls, cutting chases and altering service points. Once the installation work is complete, those areas still need to be properly made good.
Filling is not the same as finishing
A quick patch may hide a chase, but poor preparation can leave visible lines, cracking or unevenness after painting. The repair needs to bond properly to the surrounding wall and be brought back level in controlled stages.
Check the services first
Before closing any chase, the electrical or plumbing work should be complete and tested where appropriate. Reopening a newly plastered wall because a service point was missed wastes time and money.
Prepare for decoration
Once repairs are dry and stable, the surface can be sanded, checked and prepared for paint or another finish. Good making good should blend into the surrounding wall rather than advertise where the work was done.
